During Med Baltic’s voyage from Lavera-France to Derince-Turkey on September 17, 2020; the able seaman saw that there was a small boat capsized on there were people in the water. He immediately reported the situation to the bridge. Master of the vessel immediately contacted Cagliari/Sardegna MRCS and YMN Tanker. In order to rescue the refugees, he immediately turned his course to the boat’s location at full speed.

Upon vessel arrived to the capsized boat’s location, rescue operation was started immediately.  13 people were rescue with e team working of vessel crew and Italian Coast Guard.

In case of the fact that there might be others needed to be rescued, the SAR operation continued with the participation of the SAR helicopter and other nearby vessels.

At the end of the 8-hour search and rescue operation, the operation was ended following instructions of Cagliari Radio. After transferring 7 refugees on board to the Italian Coast Guard boat, our ship continued her voyage towards the next port.
